4/20 Celebration At Mass Alternative Care

 Mass Alternative Care (MAC) is excited to announce special plans to commemorate the upcoming 4/20 holiday. As a premier Massachusetts dispensary, we have several events and promotions planned for the 420 weekend. What is 4/20?

The origins of the 420 holiday can be traced back more than 50 years to a high school in San Rafael, California. At the high school, a group of teens came up with “420” as a code word for their pot smoking. At 4:20, the teens would meet up to enjoy their weed and search for a cannabis crop that was rumored to be abandoned by a member of the Coast Guard. The mythical crop was never found, but the 420 phrase caught on. The Grateful Dead had a substantial impact on making the 420 term enter the mainstream media. Flyers would get passed around at concerts, inviting everyone to meet at 4:20 for some 4-20ing. In the 1990s, an article in “High Times” discussed the lore around 420, and cannabis get-togethers on 4/20 increased in popularity.

Although many 420 events are meant to celebrate pot, the date also has importance to advocates who push for legal reforms. Along with educational forums and marches, groups would smoke pot together in public on 4/20 as a form of “civil disobedience” to push for changes in criminalizing cannabis use. Over the years, many states have adopted laws that legalize recreational and medical marijuana usage.

Celebrate 4/20 in Massachusetts

At MAC, events are planned all weekend, including a celebration at our Chicopee location on April 19th. We will have food trucks connecting you with your favorite local eats. We don’t want anyone to leave hungry from our dispensary. There will also be live music to keep the party going all day. Finally, we have invited local vendors to come out and celebrate with us. MAC has two locations: an Amherst dispensary and a Chicopee dispensary. You can shop the Amherst site daily by visiting 55 University Drive. The Chicopee location is located at 1247 Main Street and has daily operating hours with extended hours on the weekend. Budtenders are available at both sites to help recreational and medical clients find the best cannabis for their needs and budget.
